Welcome to FireBall, a space where I share my journey toward Financial Independence and Retiring Early (FIRE) while staying grounded in what truly matters: balance and living life.
You’re probably familiar with the concept of FIRE—the idea of reaching financial freedom to pursue a life beyond the constraints (and the joys) of a traditional job. While FIRE is inspiring, it’s not just about the destination for me. It’s also about the choices we make every day to live with intention, find joy in the present, and grow as individuals. Many times I hear friends and family lament that they don’t what they’d do if they did not have their job. “I don’t even have good hobbies!” is a very common lamentation I have heard.
That’s where the “Ball” in FireBall comes in. It’s a playful reminder to focus on balancing ambition with enjoyment and to live a life that feels complete and fulfilling. It is also about finding balance in everything we do intentionally: from planning and saving to achieve Fire, to finding paths and means for us to build a fulfilling life beyond Fire, and everything in between. It is about Balancing And Living Life!
I’m not a financial guru or a lifestyle expert—just someone with over 20 years of experience as an engineer and mid-level manager at a major corporation. I’ve loved the challenges and opportunities that my career has offered. But for many years till recently I was mostly living a good life, working hard and smart, growing a family, and basically doing everything by the book. But like many people, I also spent majority of my working life being financially, and purposely, rudderless.
Sure, I knew the importance of, and actually practiced, the habit of ‘saving’ and ‘investing’. But to what end or goal? I never had a cogent reply to that question in my own head. Similarly, yes I largely lead an active and busy life, generally was kind and generous but again, what else? What am I doing to live a more fulfilling and joyful life far beyond my working years? I did not have an answer or a plan for that.
Then in the last couple of years, few interesting, and some lucky accidental, events occurred that have been gradually and very intentionally moving me towards those answers and path forward.
Through this blog, I’ll share lessons I’ve learned, mistakes I’ve made, and insights I’ve gained on this path. From practical financial strategies to reflections on finding balance, I hope these posts spark conversations and ideas for anyone on a similar journey.
FireBall is about collaboration and growth. It’s about learning from each other and creating a space where we can explore what it means to live a truly balanced and intentional life.
